Happy Hearts Antepartum Doula Services

If you want support during childbirth, you can get a birth doula. Want help after the baby’s arrival? Then a postpartum doula or baby nurse can help. But what if you need help during your pregnancy?  What if you’re on bed rest or experiencing a “high-risk” pregnancy?  Mothers are considered “high-risk” when there are complications in their pregnancy that could result in maternal or fetal mortality, morbidity, or premature birth of the baby. Complications such as gestational diabetes, preterm labor, placenta previa, and hypertension are some of the reasons a mother might be restricted in her activity.  Perhaps you are experiencing severe morning sickness or you are a teenage mother needing support through the difficult emotional challenges you may be experiencing.  Maybe you’re a woman who has children already and you just need HELP (and as a mom of four myself, I can relate).  In these instances, what you need is an antepartum doula.

As an antepartum doula, I provide informational, emotional, physical and practical support during a time that is often stressful, confusing and emotionally and physically draining.

My specific responsibilities are a little bit of everything, including, but not limited to - educator, researcher, community resource coordinator, household organizer, hand-holder, shoulder to cry on, ear to listen and sometimes simply just an extra set of hands around the house to help out with life in general.

I can also answer questions, address concerns and provide you with books, articles and DVD’s to help you make better-informed choices regarding your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.

I in fact have faced difficult pregnancies myself, and that in and of itself can be very comforting to you if you’re facing similar circumstances and are uncertain about what to expect.  I spent two of my four pregnancies on bed rest for a number of months as a result of preterm labor.  So I know what it’s like and can empathize with you on a personal level as well.

Although your pregnancy may not be what you had envisioned this time of your life to be like, you can find comfort in knowing there is assistance to ensure that you and your family do not spend this time confused and alone.  Consider hiring me as your antepartum doula to help ease you through this difficult time.
